Welcome back to a new and exciting school year.  I am very happy to be joining you at St. Jude's Academy this year.  In addition to being your new School Librarian, I am teaching Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten, and 1A's Music.

I am excited to be part of a community that recognizes the value of creativity and music to our development and lives because music has been a big part of my life since childhood.  Even though my own kindergarten report card said I "couldn't carry a tune", I went on to become a vocalist who has performed many different styles of music in many venues (I've also been known to be caught singing along to the radio in the grocery store line-up).  I have worked with children's choirs and coached vocal and piano students and I have taught music in a number of schools in Northern Ontario and the Quinte West area.

This year, I am hoping we will have the opportunity to explore, learn about, and perform a variety of different music.  Some possible areas we will be exploring include:
  • Musical Elements - what makes music music
  • Music as Expression - music is often used to communicate what words cannot
  • Music & Movement - let's get dancing!
  • Rhythm & Rhyme
  • Music Around the World - exploring songs, games, and instruments of different cultures
  • Music Around Us - music is all around us.  What do you hear?
  • Musical Stories
So, get ready to clap your hands, stomp your feet, dance and sing!
